Night Ranger hits the stage as the sun sets on day two of Rocklahoma 2009. If you’ve never seen a Night Ranger show, make no mistake about it – this is not a “ballad band” – this is a full on rock show of enormous proportions. The dual lead guitar attack of the very animated and camera friendly Brad Gillis and Joel Hoekstra is in and of itself a sight to behold. Jack Blades and Kelly Keagy are also no slouches in vocal and playing ability while Christian Cullen brings a youthful perspective to the keys.
Festival shooting is always interesting with over crowded pits, stage hogs (photographers that camp in a fixed position at stage edge), and festival staffers running spots. The performance was ISO 1250 lit (ie bright) though Kelly and Christian received little spot treatment and spot operators in general seemed absent until the 3rd songs of each nightly set while also ignoring attention to guitarists during their solos.
