ZZ Top delivers a perfect set opening for Aerosmith embracing their roots and endorsing their mainstream success. Bravo.

ZZ Top utilized approximately 1/4 of the Aerosmith stage pushing them up close to the stage edge. 6 photographers and a 2 man local news crew were crowded into a gated fixed position approximately 6 ft long X 4 ft wide at a position stage left where the stage met the catwalk utilized by Aerosmith. This angle put photographers in line with the massive (albeit photogenic) mic stands of Gibbons/Hill making for difficult clean shots in the tight quarters. This coupled with the relatively fixed stage position of Gibbons/Hill made for challenging shooting indeed. Kudos to Gibbons/Hill for noticing the “hail mary” attempts of the media and stepping out from the mike stands and over to the media’s veal fattening pen (in complete sync I might add) for a few moments of unobstructed media love. Nice bright lighting and utilization of the Nikon 24-70 2.8 exclusively save a few attempts at Frank Beard with the Nikon 70-200 2.8. If anyone understands the Tabasco and Jack Daniels, please let me know ;-).

Allen,
Sounds like a challenging shoot but you got some nice results!

Thanks Mark! Challenging situations like this make you concentrate that much more to “get the shot”.
