Chickenfoot, the supergroup that may actually be a supergroup rolled into Atlanta tonight to a sold a crowd and to film a live concert DVD.
Featuring the raspy rock vocals of Sammy Hagar, the backing harmonies and thumping bass lines of Michael Anthony, the thundering beat of Chad Smith, and virtuoso gone wild Joe Satriani – Chickenfoot may in fact be the first so called supergroup that may ultimately become the next supergroup.

From a shooting perspective, I was excited by the DVD filming as this generally means lighting like a christmas present! However, the excitement quickly subsided as the night turned into one of those dreaded “why bother” soundboard shoots due to a video camera in the pit. So instead of traditional pit shooting, photographers were positioned behind the FOH soundboard, a video crew, and three large raised fixed cameras dividing the small area in half all while packing it in with the crowd at the main bar which runs the width of the venue and a about 4 feet behind FOH sound. Glorious lighting as expected with very limiting shooting angles for this amazing show. Imagine line of sight shots through the sound and video crew, over the sold out crowd, and from a fixed position. In the end, patience wins out and some artsy flair takes over of which the crowd focus shots and HD Video camera shots are my favorites. I definitely want another shot at this amazing band from the pit, and will be the first in line to order the DVD.

Patrick – haha. It gets a little tense sometimes. We were supposed to be in the pit but that was changed per the video guys request. It happens sometimes. He could have been a bit more pleasant though eh? Fun times. Great show! I hope they come back through town and we get another crack at shooting them.
