Appropriately headlining the Progpower USA X Showcase, Germany’s Primal Fear deliver a performance of EPIC proportions.
While most prog/power artists deliver exceptional studio performances, there are but a few who bring it with an over the top live show. Primal Fear hit the stage with all guns blazing – incredible lighting, thunderous sound, consistent crowd interaction, and an undeniable stage presence both by band and individual artists. Special guest Pamela Moore was a nice touch. An accomplished solo artist, Pamela Moore came into Rock N Roll fame as the vocal representation of Sister Mary through Queensryche’s Operation MindCrime. It is a pleasure to see her gracious person and exceptional talent being sought for performance on a number of present efforts. In all, my first experience hearing or covering this band – they made a believer out of me. I hope to see much more of them stateside. Kudos to Shane DuBose for an exceptional showcase.
Shooting made full use of the dual Nikon D700′s and the Nikon Holy Trinity of concert lenses. Lighting varied wildly from ISO800 to ISO 6400 with apertures from F2.8 to F4 to keep the shutter above my standard 1/200 when possible. This was one of the more dynamic lighting of the festival. Band members rarely stood still keep the photogs busy in the crowded pit of sponsors, VIPs, and film crew. I broke a sweat for this one!
The luxury of extended shooting necessitates an extended set. Hope you enjoy.
