Music and fashion icon Lenny Kravitz stops in Atlanta in support of the 20th anniversary of his breakthrough album Let Love Rule.
The show was presented with infectious vibe that Lenny Kravitz so consistently delivers in his live shows. The capacity crowd was taken back to a time more carefree but with a message perhaps more appropriate to today’s feelings with current events. Smiles and rhythmic movement adorned the fans as Lenny and his always exceptional supporting band moved through the entire Let Love Rule album which segued into his commercial hits over the last decade.

From a photography perspective, this was a challenging shoot. Media was given the standard first 3 which was shared with some great local talent. The stage is high at the Tabernacle with stage layout having large monitors placed along the stage edge prohibiting clean full length shots.
In lighting treatment, the first song was entirely backlight with momentary white flashes. Moving into the second song, a red persistent wash came from behind coupled midway through with red front lighting. As the third song began lighting became more balanced with orange and yellow hues mixed with occasional follow spots from the front on Lenny Kravitz providing effectively about a song worth of quality shooting.

Excellent Lenny Kravitz set. I have yet had the opportunity to shoot him but I know he puts on a great performance.
Hey Derek – thanks much for the compliments. Great shoot that I really enjoyed covering. There is a certain soul about Lenny Kravitz that I tried to capture and it was a privilege to cover.
I follow your work on Flickr. Great stuff. I hope we can share a pit sometime.
