Atlanta’s New Wave of American Heavy Metal veterans Mastodon and and the formerly fictitious Dethklok from Adult Swim’s cartoon Metalocalypse join forces at the Tabernacle to bleed some ears and crack some skulls.
Shooting notes: Ow.
Mastadon/Dethklok presented a challenging shooting environment with ISO’s in the 3200-6400 range, F1.8-2.8, and shutters 1/125-1/200ish. Acts were bathed in very subtle side lighting of red/blue/green hues with the bulk of the stage lighting coming from the large LED video screen backdrop. The pit was quite crowded to boot making shooting angles and the search for any front/back contrast quite a scavenger hunt as artists all provided vocal duty and rarely deviated from fixed positions on their mic.
