Heavy Metal, Hair Whips, Mosh Pit. Must be the Finnish Cello metal band Apocalyptica.
Touring in support of their 7th Studio Album “7th Symphony”, the classically trained and metal persuaded group blend the best of two distinct genres in their unique fusion of classical music and heavy metal.

Shooting Notes:
I choose the Nikon 14-24 2.8 rather exclusively for the first 3. I’ve rather missed this lens and had high hopes for catching the cello trio stage front. The first 2 songs received similar lighting treatment as the opening acts (ie NONE). Patience played out and the third song received some warm front lighting from the house where the majority of photos were captured at a challenging but workable ISO6400.

You captured the guys perfectly. The pictures are fantastic.
@Letty – Thank you. Such a photogenic group to photograph with all the energy on stage and in crowd of a full throttle metal show!
What great set of photos Allen. The lighting and smoke blended perfectly and captured it just right. Love them!
Thank you Mark. Liquid smoke in large quantities and with heavy backlighting is interesting. It tricks both the camera’s meter as well as the human eye in terms of light quantity by around 1.5 stops as I can tell. A challenge to work a bit counter intuitive. Thanks for the note.
