Godsmack perform in the 2nd chair headlining slot during the Mayhem Festival Tour stop in Atlanta, Ga taking a minimalistic approach to stage production and delivering a straightforward rock show of the groups catalog of hits.

Photography Notes:
The allotted shooting interval was the first three with the now overly full pit of 25 photographers, a 3 man video crew, and 6 security personnel. As such movement was extremely limited with challenging shooting angles and minimalistic lighting ranging from 1/400 F2.8 ISO800 on drummer Shannon Larkin to 1/200 F2.8 ISO6400 at stage front. In addition to the best lighting treatment, Larkin provided the best mugging of the group remaining in constant showmanship mode and giving plenty of direct eye contact.

Nice work. How are you shooting at 6400 with such clean images? Are you using a D3s and Lightroom? Holler back, because I’m timid about breaking 3200 on my D700. Thanks in advance!
Hi Sam -
Nikon D700′s, nailing exposure, and using Nikon Capture NX2 for RAW conversions. At these extremes, Lightroom just doesn’t cut it for me and induces far too much noise and makes it impossible to get a good black point. NX2, the dog that it is, just nails it. Lightroom is great for cataloging though.
