Revered Leigh High Valley progressive rock band Shadow Gallery performs in the headlining spot of Progpower USA XIV’s first night in a rare live performance that audibly exceeded all expectations with one of the strongest showings of musicianship I have ever had the pleasure of covering.
This was a particularly challenging set to shoot. Lighting was provided by the house who has one of the best setups in town. However, the color mix used (warm peach-ish fills up front) and random rear floods with an overall flat presentation made it very difficult to get any contrast in shots while also timing with interesting moments in the performance. Think High School play lighting only much dimmer and without follow-spots or even contrasting fills of any sort. There were a few lucky breaks during transitional periods where lighting and a moment came together. Exposures fell about 1/125 F2.8 ISO5000-6400. Deep breaths, patience, and steady hands.
